Player’s Edge President and lead instructor Andy Raffa led the instruction by opening with his two main principles of hitting: be balanced and swing the knob. Raffa’s philosophy on hitting comes from some of the greats such as Ted Williams, Tony Gwynn, Kevin Long, and Rudy Jaramillo “because they keep it simple and have a defined philosophy of hitting. “I believe that you have to have a well-defined plan for each at bat.” Raffa said. He added “With hitting we try and keep it simple. If you can stay balanced and swing the knob while keeping your eye on the ball, you’ll be a much more difficult out. Our goal is to make each player a difficult out for the opposing team. It doesn’t matter how old you are, there are certain fundamentals that hold true for the science of hitting. We want to teach those fundamentals so these kids can become the superstars of the future.”
